I am Raphaël. I hail from France: I was born in Paris and then moved to the northern French Alps, just by Geneva (Switzerland) and the Valle d’Aosta (Italy). I am currently a second year mathematics student at Imperial College in London. While in high school, I became particularly interested in the mathematical aspects of cryptology. An extensive exploration of the subject sparked an interest in me for the applications of such technologies. I created the Imperial College Blockchain and crypto technologies society (also simply known as CryptoSoc on campus) in March 2018.
Our aim is to run lectures, workshops and networking sessions for Imperial students. In addition to
the mathematical and scientific aspects behind Blockchain and Crypto Technologies, we will
address economical, legal and societal issues with speakers from Imperial Business School, other
London universities and guests from industry. We are also collaborating with other London
organisations such as London Blockchain Labs.
We have just been approved by Imperial College Union and we will start organising our events
very soon. We expect to attract a lot of students at Imperial, which is the only university in the
United Kingdom focusing exclusively on engineering, sciences, medicine and business. We expect
that our members will reflect the diversity of degrees at Imperial: we already have members from
the computing, mathematics, physics and engineering departments, to name but a few. Imperial
College being the most international university in the United Kingdom, we are also taking
advantage of our international student community to foster our society’s collaborations abroad.
